Jasper
JAS-per /ˈdʒæs.pər/
Meaning of Jasper
Jasper derives from the Persian ganjvar (گنجبر) meaning 'treasure-bearer,' which was Latinised as Gaspar and later became Caspar/Kaspar (German) and Jasper (English). By medieval tradition, the three Magi (Wise Men) were named Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar — Jasper is the English development of the first name. The jasper gemstone (red, brown or green) is named from the same Persian root.
