2. Information we do not collect
You do not need to create an account, log in, or provide any personal information to use the Baby Name Finder generator or any of its category pages. We do not collect names, email addresses, postal addresses, dates of birth or any other identifying detail through the generator itself. Names you save to a shortlist are stored only in your own browser's localStorage; nothing about your shortlist is sent to us or to anyone else.
3. Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, certain technical information is collected automatically by us and our third-party partners:
- IP address and approximate geographic location (country / region level), used for routing and for region-specific consent rules.
- Browser type and version, operating system, device type and screen size.
- Referring URL, pages visited, time spent on each page.
- Interactions with advertising content served on the site.
This information is used to understand how visitors use the site (in aggregate) and to serve and measure advertising. The legal basis under GDPR is your consent for non-essential processing (advertising and analytics cookies) and our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site (server logs).
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Essential cookies
One essential cookie / local-storage entry records your cookie-consent choice so we do not ask you on every page load. It contains only the value accepted or declined.
Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)
If you accept cookies, this site loads Google AdSense, which uses cookies to serve and measure advertising. Google's advertising cookies allow it and its partners to serve ads to you based on visits to this and other sites. Full details of Google's use of cookies are in the Google advertising privacy notice.
If you decline cookies, AdSense is not loaded on your visit; you see the site without ads. You can change your choice at any time by clearing site data for babys-name.com in your browser and refreshing the page.
Opting out
- Personalised ads from Google: Google My Ad Center
- Industry-wide opt-out: aboutads.info and YourOnlineChoices.com (EU/UK)
- Cookie controls in your browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge all let you block or delete cookies in their privacy settings.
5. Google AdSense
We participate in the Google AdSense programme. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on the site. We have no access to or control over cookies that are used by third-party advertisers carrying ads through the AdSense network.

6. Your rights under GDPR
If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or another jurisdiction with comparable law, you have the following rights with respect to any personal data we hold about you:
- Right of access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
- Right of rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
- Right to restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
- Right to object — object to processing of your personal data, particularly for advertising.
- Right to withdraw consent — at any time, with effect for the future, by clearing browser cookies and declining on your next visit.
- Right to lodge a complaint — with the relevant data-protection supervisory authority in your country (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us via the contact form. We respond within thirty days. There is no charge to exercise these rights.
7. Your rights under CCPA / CPRA (California)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the right to delete personal information collected from you, the right to opt out of any "sale" or "share" of personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
We do not sell personal information for money. The use of advertising cookies through AdSense may constitute "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law; you can opt out by declining cookies on this site and by using Google's My Ad Center controls.
8. Children's privacy
The site is not directed to children under 13 (in the United States, under 16 in the EEA where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it. While our content is family-friendly and is mainly aimed at expecting parents, we do not design our data collection to target minors.
9. Data retention
We do not store personal data on our own servers beyond standard server access logs, which are retained for up to 90 days for security and abuse-prevention purposes and then deleted or anonymised. Data collected by Google AdSense is governed by Google's own retention policies, linked above. Your saved shortlist exists only in your browser; clearing browser storage removes it.
10. International transfers
Our hosting and advertising partners (Cloudflare, Google) may process data in jurisdictions outside the UK and the EEA, including the United States. Where transfers occur, those providers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and/or adequacy decisions to ensure equivalent protection.
11. Third-party links
This site links out to external sites — national statistics offices, dictionaries, academic references. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites. Review their privacy policies before sharing information with them.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Substantive changes will be summarised at the top of the page; the "Last updated" date always reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
