1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using babys-name.com (the "Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
2. The operator
The Site is operated by Mitchell Duncan, a sole-trader publisher based in Canada, Ontario, trading as "Baby Name Finder". In these Terms, "we", "us" and "our" refer to that operator.
3. The service
Baby Name Finder provides a free, informational baby name reference and generator. The Site does not require registration, does not sell baby names, and does not provide professional naming, legal, medical or genealogical advice. Our editorial standards and methodology are documented at /editorial-guidelines and /methodology; the sources behind our data are listed at /data-sources.
4. Permitted use
You may use the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes — including browsing names, saving shortlists, and sharing Site URLs with others. You may quote brief extracts of editorial text under fair-dealing / fair-use principles with proper attribution and a link back.
You may not:
- Scrape, harvest or republish the name database at scale without prior written permission.
- Use the Site or its content to train commercial machine-learning models without permission, except where explicitly allowed in our robots.txt and llms.txt.
- Interfere with the Site's operation, attempt to circumvent security, or use automated tools that place undue load on our infrastructure.
- Use the Site for unlawful, harmful, defamatory, harassing or deceptive purposes.
- Frame, mirror or republish the Site as if it were your own.
5. Intellectual property
The Site's design, layout, written editorial text, code and visual identity are copyright © 2026 Mitchell Duncan and are protected under the copyright law of Canada, Ontario and applicable international treaties. Individual baby names are not — and cannot be — owned by us; they are cultural and linguistic property. Our compilation, classification and editorial presentation of the names is, however, an original work.
The cleaned dataset published at /names.js is offered under a permissive licence as declared in our Dataset structured data; please credit "Baby Name Finder" with a link back to babys-name.com if you reuse it.
6. Accuracy and disclaimers
We work hard to ensure name spellings, meanings and popularity rankings are accurate, drawing on authoritative national sources listed on the Data sources page. However, the Site is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant:
- That every name, meaning or ranking is free of errors.
- That the Site will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free.
- That information on the Site is appropriate for legal naming requirements in your jurisdiction (registration of a baby name is governed by your local civil registry).
You are responsible for verifying any name with your relevant civil registry before formal use.
7. Advertising
The Site is supported by third-party advertising, including Google AdSense. The terms governing how advertising is shown and how cookies are used are in our Privacy Policy. We do not endorse advertised products and have no editorial relationship with advertisers. Your interactions with advertisers are solely between you and the advertiser. 8. Third-party links
The Site links to external sources (national statistics offices, dictionaries, etc.) for verification and citation. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy or privacy practices of any external site.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by the law of Canada, Ontario, the operator, contributors and editorial team are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or special damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site — including but not limited to claims based on regret about a name choice, naming disputes or social outcomes. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded by law (such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
10. Privacy
Your use of the Site is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which identifies the data controller and describes how cookies and advertising data are handled.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada, Ontario. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Canada, Ontario, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
