Manon
mah-NOH /maˈnɔ̃/
Meaning of Manon
Manon is the French pet form of Marie (French form of Mary), ultimately from the Hebrew Miriam — a name whose root is debated between marar ('bitter') and mar-yam ('beloved of the sea' or 'wished-for child'). Manon has been used as an independent given name in France since at least the 18th century, famously in the Abbé Prévost's 1731 novel Manon Lescaut.
How to pronounce Manon
The final n is nasal in French — mah-NOH rather than mah-NON. In English the nasal is typically dropped.
