Rose
ROHZ /roʊz/
Meaning of Rose
Rose has two possible origins. In the medieval period it was often a short form of Germanic names beginning with hrod- ('fame') such as Rosamund or Rosalind — with hros ('horse') as the root element. But the word rose (Latin rosa, from Greek rhodon) was also used directly as a name for the flower's associations with beauty and love. Both origins have been active since the Norman period; the flower meaning now dominates.
