Ginevra
jih-NEV-ruh /dʒɪˈnɛv.rə/
Meaning of Ginevra
Ginevra is the Italian form of Guinevere, from the Old Welsh Gwenhwyfar: gwen ('white, fair, blessed') + hwyfar ('smooth, soft') or possibly 'sea-foam.' Guinevere was King Arthur's queen in Arthurian legend. The name travelled into Italian through medieval Breton romances, where it became Ginevra — which is also the Italian word for Geneva. Leonardo da Vinci's portrait Ginevra de' Benci (c.1474) is one of the most famous early uses.
