Isaiah comes from the Hebrew יְשַׁעְיָהוּ (Yeshayahu): yasha ('to save') + yahu (a short form of the Tetragrammaton). The full meaning is 'Yahweh is salvation.' Isaiah was a major Hebrew prophet, the author of the Book of Isaiah — one of the longest books in the Old Testament, spanning 66 chapters. The name has risen steeply in the US since the 1990s.
