Levi
LEE-vye /ˈliː.vaɪ/
Meaning of Levi
Levi comes from the Hebrew לֵוִי (Lewi), with the root meaning of 'joined' or 'attached' — a reference, in Genesis 29:34, to the bond between Leah and Jacob after the birth of their third son. The biblical tribe of Levi gave rise to the Levites, the priestly tribe. Modern English use was minor until a sharp rise from 2000 onward.
