Meaning of Nora

Root meaning "honour; or 'north' (Norse)"

Nora has two converging origins. In Romance Europe it is the short form of Eleanora (see Eleanor) or of Honora (Latin honor, 'honour'). In Scandinavia it is associated with the Old Norse element norðr ('north'). The two traditions have effectively merged in current use.
